SLW Episode 5 – The Tyranny of Lists

It’s been a couple of weeks too long since our last podcast. Work got crazy and life got in the way (translation: I failed to prioritize appropriately) and my list got waaaay out of control. No interview this week. Just me and my thoughts on how lists can be a great tool and they can just as easily turn into thankless task masters that steal our focus and mindfulness away.

Life is likely to get away from me again this summer. I’ll be back to things on the regular no later than August…hopefully before then.

Cheers!

No One Right Way

I started this site to talk about minimalism. I wanted to explore how simplification, a boiling down of the unnecessary to the essential, improves life. I wanted to talk about the focus of mind and thought that comes as a natural occurrence when we minimize distraction. I wanted to explore how creating time and space in…

Our Compassion Deficit

I need your help. Last week, terrorists blew up an airport and the metro in Brussels. A few months ago, some of those same people bombed locations across Paris. Simply typing “San Bernardino” into Google yields 2nd-place result linked to 2015 San Bernardino attack on Wikipedia. We live in a crazy world where an Uber driver shoots…

My 3 Words for 2016

Late last year, Chris Brogan challenged me (and everyone else who follows him for advice) to select 3 words to help us define our personal and business goals for 2016. While I came up with my own 3 words months ago, I’m just getting around to sharing them with you here. The exercise helped me…

Create Connections

We live disconnected lives. This morning I walked my dog, Aiden, through my drive-and-wave neighborhood. We moved into this typically suburban neighborhood that lies in a cluster of similar neighborhoods almost 3 years ago. This cluster sits among other clusters of neighborhoods well away from our city’s center and well away from the shopping and…

Starting Over, Again

“Every new beginning is some other beginning’s end.” – Semisonic (and Seneca the Younger waaaay before them.) And so here I find myself once again, writing on a blog I’ve largely ignored for the better part of a year. What brings me back this time? About a month ago, I quit my dream job at a…
